Markets

ECS understands your market

The ECS team understands the safety, logistics, standards and industry practices for each market we serve. We solve technical problems or suggest work-arounds that save deadlines and increase efficiency.

Light Rail and Streetcars

With light rail, streetcar and APM projects in numerous cities including Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake, Denver, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, St. Louis, Charlotte, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami, and even Disney World, ECS is regarded as the foremost transit specialty wire distributor in the country.  Cable types supplied include practically anything that comes on a reel – traction power, signal/train control, communication, fiber, contact wire, stainless steel, and galvanized steel.

ECS knows the standards used by transit designers and does a deep dive into the specifications associated with each project.  We provide complete submittals, not just a collection of data sheets.  ECS meets “Made in USA” requirements.  By the time customers release an order, ECS has a detailed plan for the order to the end of the job.

ECS manages the data for every reel shipped – unique reel tag, specified length, reel size limitations, paralleling requirements, preferred delivery date, etc.  We know that our job is not done when cable is delivered, but continues through acceptance of Certified Test Reports.  ECS scrubs CTRs before logging them in our system and sending copies to our customers.  ECS is there for you until the final project close out.

Transit Authorities, design consultants and contractors value ECS’s technical capabilities and take advantage of ECS’s Continuing Education Seminars.

Heavy and Commuter Rail

ECS has a 30-year history supporting heavy rail projects including projects for numerous authorities including MARTA, BART, CTA, NYCTA, WMATA, Tren Urbano, and MDTA.  Commuter experience includes NICTD, RTD, MTA Metro-North, and SEPTA. Cable types supplied include practically anything that comes on a reel – traction power, signal/train control, communication, fiber, contact wire, stainless steel, galvanized steel, etc.

Power Generation

ECS has extensive experience supplying cable to power stations and has played a significant role in the efforts to reduce smoke stack emissions. Projects have included FGDs, SCR-BDCs, Precipitators, Bag Houses, Water Treatment Plants, Digital Control upgrades, etc. ECS supplies cables for gas turbine generating stations and solar farms.

ECS staff includes electrical engineers that have power plant experience in former careers. ECS will review and comment on cable specifications for power plant projects.

Transmission and Substations

ECS supplies ASCR for power transmission, substations, grid connections and high voltage transit OCS systems. Projects include a 375 transmission miles of ACSR cable linking South Carolina Gas and Electric’s Virgil G. Summer Nuclear Plant to the grid. During this five year contract, ECS data management systems provided the installer much greater control of their cable and returnable reels which were spread among multiple staging locations.

ECS provides cables for substation construction and upgrades of all sizes and voltage ratings. For small assignments, ECS can marshal an entire substation cable order in our warehouse and ship it in one shipment to the project to minimize confusion on the project. For programs to upgrade multiple substations with unique cable specifications requiring custom manufacturing runs, ECS will arrange a stocking program to supply individual projects when time for construction.

ECS offers a high level of technical expertise for substation cables, including detailed input regarding substation control cable shielding and the most effective line tuner coaxial cabling.

Industrial

ECS has a long history of heavy industrial work including plants that manufacture pulp and paper, wood products, chemical, plastics, LNG, cement, textile, automotive, aeronautical, and fiberglass. Project sizes range from a few reels to multi-million dollar orders.

ECS understands that industrial projects are frequently short and intense and require focused logistical support. At ECS there is no distinction between inside and outside sales. ECS assigns a manager who will execute your order from start to finish. Combined with ECS’s excellent logistics systems, this hands on approach provides the highest level of service available in the market.

OEM

ECS provides technical expertise and sourcing experience to customers needing specialty wire or cable for inclusion in their products. Our experience includes 5,000V cable rated to near absolute zero temperatures, solid nickel conductor for use as an in-line temperature sensing device, brightly colored cord for temporary lighting in subway tunnels, and more.

Institutional

ECS supplies Medium Voltage cable for power distribution in healthcare facilities, sporting arenas, high rise towers, laboratories, pharmaceutical plants, etc. ECS has also provided cable for use on Army, Navy and Air Force bases.
